WHY SAN DIEGO TUTOR?

Chemistry Tutor

Chemistry seems to be a course in high school that all students have to take, even if they feel that later in college, they will never need it.  We understand that there are these two different types of students and we have the experience to help each of them succeed.  In our experience, we’ve seen students struggle with chemistry because they procrastinate learning the material and try to cram for the exam at the last minute.  You should be reviewing your chemistry material for 1-2 hours a day.  It’s important to come to class having already read the chapter your teaching will go over that day.  Your lecture should serve as a review allowing you to ask educated questions during lecture if you don’t understand something.  San Diego Tutor has provided you with helpful chemistry rules and formulas below to help with your studying.  We’ve also included sample problems at the bottom of the page that you can review with your San Diego Tutor.  Chemistry tends to be one of the more challenging courses for students so San Diego Tutor has put together a great team of in home tutors in your area to help.  CONTACT US today for more information on getting a chemistry Tutor in the Del Mar, La Jolla, Carmel Valley, Poway, Rancho Santa Fe and Scripps Ranch areas.

Helpful Chemistry Formulas

Heat transfer

Density = mass/ volume    (D= m/V)

Kelvin = Celsius +273

Heat transferred to water= Mw * ΔTw * Cpw (specific heat of water)

  • ΔTw = Tf - Ti

  • Cp = 4.2 J/goC

Heat transferred to substance A= MA * ΔTA * CpA

Common chemical equations

H2 + O → H2O        (hydrogen combines with oxygen to produce water)

CH4 + 2 O2 → CO2 + 2H2O        (burning of methane)

2Na + Cl2 2NaCl        (Sodium combines with Chloride to produce salt)

Ideal Gas Laws

pV = nRT -  where P is the pressure, V is the volume of gas, n is the number of moles and R is the gas constant and T is temperature.

n=m/M - where m is the mass and M is the molar mass.
